Baby Photo

A mummy told me that 1 photograph taken by me of her daughter appeared in the Straits Times yesterday. I was happy to hear that the editor picked the picture, and I must thank the mummy for taking the effort to post the photo to the media :)

Part of my work involves shooting for magazines, annual reports, media in general, my works were published many times everywhere. But I guess the real kick comes when parents told me their baby's pictures (taken by me) appeared where and where, and won what and what... Keep the good news coming!

Fun plates for the Little Ones

Belle's family comes to our studio every year for a family portraits session. She ordered a fun plate 2 years ago when her boy Jayden turns One and her photoshoot was done by my colleague. A year later, she ordered another plate when her daughter Jervelle was born. This year, I finally got the opportunity to photograph her family, and she brought along her 2 fun plates for the photoshoot:)

Embossed 'JUST MARRIED' Aluminium Car Plates

I used to put up the information on 'JUST MARRIED' car plates on my geocities website. However, since yahoo closed down geocities website last year, the information was not loaded anywhere, and customers seraching for 'JUST MARRIED' car plates have to call me (which is good!). However sometimes I am at work, and not convenient to pick up the call :(

Anyway, please find information on the 'JUST MARRIED' aluminium plate (or we call them 'fun plates' below. Each 11cmx52cm fun plate cost $33(solid colour range), $35 for glitter range, includes the embossing service and the plate. The maximum characters that can be embossed on a plate is 14 (using thin font), including spacing. Each embossed logo takes up 3 spacing. For stickers text (which our clients use to put their names below the 'JUST MARRIED' words), 1- 30 characters cost $4. 30-50 characters cost $5.

We accept bank-transfers only- i.e. internet bank(DBS/POSB) or ATM transfer. SMS or call me once u transfer the money over so that we can proceed with your order.

We need about 5 working days to have the plate ready for collection. Self- Collection at Jurong East St 24. Delivery services available at additional $8 in Singapore. Call me 96935299 if you need more information.

'December Rains' Musical

Did you catch the trailer on TV about the musical 'December Rains' by Toy Factory Pte Ltd? I fell in love with the song, and guess I will be watching it. Join me if you are free.

December Rains is a love story, that kind of love that invites endless joy and perpetual pain. It is 1950s Singapore. The innocent relationship of a pair of young lovers is convoluted by strikes organized by Chinese students, a marriage of convenience and strong parental disapproval. The symphony of pain resonates to a third party who is waiting desperately in vain for his unrequited love. In 1980s, past grievances and mistakes are contagiously wounding the younger generation. Only a personal sacrifice and the surfacing of an undelivered love letter would resolve all these entanglements. However, no one knows when the rain will depart in December.

It is 3 weeks into 2010, and a happy new year to all! I wish that my dad would be in good health always, and also hope he would exercise more. I wish my sister success in her new job, and i wish all my dear friends get whatever they wished for :)

I was busy busy taking photos for big and small, editing photos for prints, preparing montages for wedding couples, designing collages and photo albums, editing videos for corporate customers and wedding couples.. That was how I spent my last 3 months.. working for almost 18 hours every day - no holiday:(

Nearer to Christmas, I received a plesant surprise from a customer. She gave me a present when she collected her CD of photos. I like what is written on the Christmas present, and I took a picture of it:)

This was written by the mother of the children. I read the message over and over again, it just felt great! I am glad that the family appreciated our efforts in creating the images. (The term 'play in our house' refers to my studio. Usually I tell the children to come into 'my house' to play, as my studio has many toys:))

Many things happened in the last 2 months. I felt sad for most of the time, and I couldn't help but cry. I cried when I thought about a friend in hospital, and I cried when I attended her funeral. And tears just flow down as I am writing this blog.. oh god- when have I become such an emotional freak!

My dear friend was one who had lived life to the fullest - she had explored half the globe before the age of 31, and had many wonderful tales to share while she was on adventures. She was intelligent, inquisitive and a beauty. Cancer took her life in the morning of 7 September 2009. In the 1 month which she battled with cancer, her fighting spirit was amazing. Although she did not speak much when we visited her in hospital, the look in her eyes told us that she was determined to get well soon.

We grew up together. We went to the same primary school, secondary school, junior college... As we grow older and each busy with our work and life, there are birthday celebrations, the annual year-end parties, weddings, new borns, which we gather and we yak, yak, yak... Her sudden departure made me realize that i may have taken things for granted - and I have taken her for granted too - her companionship in the journey of life at least for the next 20+ years.. I am sad.

We had a gathering with our girlfriends last night. A close friend got married. It was a funny feeling, i couldn't describe it. I appreciate my friends for who they are and i treasure them.

Yahoo is closing down the Geocities web service soon and had advised to shift my website elsewhere. The geocities web service was one which i signed up during my uni days, where i offer my photography service on a freelance basis. It is sad that they are closing the service...

Anyway, below is an extract which I wrote when I was younger... and i am affirming this belief now... Wow! It is almost 10 years already...

Paradoxically, some inexperienced souls think of photography as unimportant. They misunderstand the very nature of the art. If you are sitting across the table from your mother, talking over a cup of coffee, it is easy to overlook the benefit a photo of her might hold. You can see her whenever you want. But sadly, that will not always be true. Without being maudlin, the value of owning photographs of Mom (or anyone close to you) depends on whether or not you can be with him/her anytime you choose. Photographs are priceless, especially after the passage of time has begun to cloud your memory, photographs are still the best way to refresh the feelings that particular day created.

I thought about her comments and designed a new set of plates. These are are more 'retro' in nature (see photo above). I hope you like them.

Abalone for Mother's Day?

Today I went to post a registered article in Singapore Post Office. While serving me, the officer asked, "Would you like to buy Abalone for Mother's Day? We are having a promotion.."

I gently said 'No'.

She then asked, 'How about getting a watch for your mum?'

I was annoyed, but I told her gently, "My mum is not around anymore..." and I left the counter.

My mother passed away in November 2003 due to cancer. That was about 3 years after I graduated from University and started my work life in a Government Statutory Board. I love my job, and usually works late in office. My mum would then call me when I do not reach home by 8pm... Back then, I was bullheaded - as a young graduate wanting to climb the corporate ladder fast fast... and left my parents waiting at home for me...

Mum was diagnosed with third stage lung cancer in February 2003. I was angry - i never thought this could happen to her. Mum did not want to go through chemotherapy, so she rested at home. The doctor said Mum would need to report to hospital if she felt her lungs were uncomfortable, that was when there are too much water trapped in the lungs, and she would need to go back to hospital to 'offload' the water.

During that time, we tried Chinese herbs, and went to doctors for second opinions and treatment. These seems to help mum psychologically. She seemed normal to everyone. Then came one day in November, when she complained that she was not feeling too well. I accompany her to the hospital, thinking that as long as the doctor gets the water out of her lungs, things should be good again. I reassured mum that everything will be fine - doctor just need to take out the water...

I was wrong! Mum's condition deteriorated rapidly the day she was admitted to hospital. The cancer cells spread suddenly and the doctors were not able to draw out any water. We were hoping for all kinds of miracles to happen but nothing happened. She passed on after 3 days in hospital...

One of my greatest regret is not having spent enough time with her. When I was schooling, I always tell myself that i will earn alot of money for my parents when I grew up. I did that. I bought abalone for my family during the Chinese New Year, I wanted mum to know that I was doing well in work and she can enjoy life from then on. I love my mum alot and thought that by giving her money monthly, it should make her happy. It did not occur to me that she went away so quickly... I have not got time to say I love her.

(Sigh)...

40km OCBC Cycle Challenge

We did it! My friend Jeana and me did something we thought 'not that possible' in our lives. We took part in the 40km challenge without training! It was a real challenge to me considering that I am not one who exercise regularly to build up that much needed stamina. God blessed! We completed the 40km safely, and I did it with my folding bicycle :)

Nyeshia's First Studio Session

It was a busy month for me, but i guess i spent it well. I just finished a collage album of a 11-month old gal Nyeshia. Nyeshia is a cheerful baby, she likes action-packed movements. We spent an hour in studio to shoot these images, and many hours to present the photos in this collage layout. Nyeshia's mum says she loves the album very much. Give your comments ya.

I don have many photos of me and my sister in our childhood. I thinks kids today are fortunate, parents are more well-off and take the effort to arrange a photo session for the family.

'Love Journey' aluminium signages

One of my clients orders this aluminium signage for their ROM in February, and i think it is quite cool..

The dimensions for this aluminium plate is 11cm by 52cm, and cost $44. ($34 for the plate and the embossed 'LOVE JOURNEY', $5 for the red embossed heart, $5 for the sticker text).

Apart from being a decoration item for the car on their ROM day, this is also a souvenir item to remember the wedding day for many years to come.

Canvas: Types of Stretching

Some friends ask me how many types of stretching we can do? There are mainly 3 types of stretching (see photo on the right).

Standard Stretch: The image does not wrap around the stretcher bars. The white of the canvas is seen on the sides. Stretcher frame is 3/4" thick.

Wrap Around Stretch: The image wraps around the stretcher bars. Stretcher frame is 3/4" thick.

Gallery Wrap Stretch: The image wraps around the stretcher bars. Stretcher frame is 1 1/2" thick.

About Stretched Canvas

This is the latest canvas I did for a wedding. The canvas measures 24 by 30 inches. I also did the design for the canvas.

W e stretch the canvas by hand. The canvas is stretched around the sides and stapled in the back, which hides unsightly staples from view. A hanger is then attatched to the back, so that you can hang the canvas on the wall.
