Today I went to post a registered article in Singapore Post Office. While serving me, the officer asked, "Would you like to buy Abalone for Mother's Day? We are having a promotion.." I gently said 'No'. She then asked, 'How about getting a watch for your mum?' I was annoyed, but I told her gently, "My mum is not around anymore..." and I left the counter. My mother passed away in November 2003 due to cancer. That was about 2 years after I graduated from University and started my work life in a Statutory Board. I love my job, and usually worked till\late. My mum would then call me when I do not reach home by 8pm... Yahoo is closing down the Geocities web service soon and had advised to shift my website elsewhere. The geocities web service was one which i signed up during my uni days, where i offer my photography service on a freelance basis. It is sad that they are closing the service...
Anyway, below is an extract which I wrote when I was younger... and i am affirming this belief now... Wow! It is almost 10 years already...
'Wai Peng's love for photography is built on 5 elements:
love,
passion,
sincerity,
goodness and
beauty of life.
Paradoxically, some inexperienced souls think of photography as unimportant. They misunderstand the very nature of the art. If you are sitting across the table from your mother, talking over a cup of coffee, it is easy to overlook the benefit a photo of her might hold. You can see her whenever you want. But sadly, that will not always be true. Without being maudlin, the value of owning photographs of Mom (or anyone close to...
